Biography

Nathan Farrell

Nathan Farrell is a vocalist, saxophonist, songwriter, and arranger from the New York City Metropolitan area. His artistry and musicianship- forged and refined in various bars, restaurants, jam sessions, music communities and venues- have been rapidly growing, alongside his career as a band leader, supporting horn player, and backing vocalist. His live sets establish continuity between Swing and The Great American Songbook, classic neo-soul, pop hits, and original music that synthesizes the aforementioned with more contemporary styles of songwriting. His sound presents a unique blend of the nostalgic and contemporary, demonstrating an innovative approach to vocal performance that synthesizes complex harmonic awareness and improvisatory ease with impressive vocal agility and technique.

Nathan has spent the last few years singing and playing at restaurants, bars, venues, and clubs, across the city including Room 623, Cloak Room, and the Porch in Harlem- as well as Ornithology, The Aman Hotel, Le Poisson Rouge, The Green Room 42, Little Island, City Winery, Sofar Sounds, and at Madison Square Garden as the National Anthem singer. Despite not attending a New York City conservatory, he made great efforts to hone his craft, attend jam sessions, arrange music, network with musicians, and be available for opportunities at their ready. His high school aptitude and education enabled him to secure a spot in both the 2016 and 2017 Grammy Bands, win soloists awards from Downbeat Magazine, the Essentially Ellington, and Charles Mingus big band competitions, and additionally a feature slot in the Pittsfield Jazz Festival's Jazz Prodigy Series.
