As a finalist in the first international Harrell Dungey Cello Loan Competition and 1st place winner of the Brimhall and Utah state ASTA competitions in 2022, Nathan Cox is one of the most exciting young cellists in Utah. He grew up in a musical home where he took cello, piano, and organ lessons. He fell in love with the cello and began taking lessons at The Colburn School at age 13. At age 16, he enrolled at Brigham Young University on a full 4-year music scholarship. He is a winner of the BYU Concerto Competition and principal of the BYU Philharmonic. In 2022, Nathan won Second Prize in the VIII Category of the 10th North International Music Competition and a 3ème Prix Laureat of the International Music Competition. Nathan has attended the Emerald Coast Chamber Music Festival and loves working with small ensembles. While maintaining a GPA-based full-tuition academic scholarship at BYU, Nathan has organized and performed 3 full-length solo non-required recitals in addition to a required recital. He makes a living teaching cello and piano and accompanying for his fellow cello students at BYU, and his hobbies are hiking and reading.
