Phillip Nuzzo

Philip Nuzzo is the founder of the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra. His highly diverse performing career has brought him international recognition, and led him from the Great Wall of China to the Pyramids — and many places in between. Mo. Nuzzo has held the posts of Music Director of the Mississippi Opera and Principal Guest conductor of the Cairo Symphony and recently principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestra Filarmonica Campana in Naples, Italy. Soon to begin his 17th season as Artistic Director of Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra, Maestro Nuzzo, with his varied repertoire and easy manner, has brought classical music back to Brooklyn, which was missing for over a decade. He has led the BCO in almost 100 concerts in such diverse programming as the American debut of the opera “All Quiet on the Western Front” and Arnold Schoenberg’s The Book of the Hanging Gardens to such varied works as the Berg “Violin Concerto” and Puccini’s “Turandot” and Debussy’s “L’Enfant Prodigue”. Maestro Nuzzo and the BCO received critical acclaim for their performance of the music of Dmitri Shostakovich. His world premiere recording of the “Oneness” violin concerto, with the BCO, by Deon Price, released on Cambria Records, was singled out by the Grammy nominating committee for both the work and performance. International engagements have included concerts with the Venice Chamber Orchestra, Vienna’s Kunstler Ensemble and the Orchestera P.I. Tchaikvosky which opened the 16th annual Irno Festival and the Plovdiv Chamber Orchestra in Bulgari as part of the European Capital of Music 2019. In Italy Mo. Nuzzo has led the Venice Chamber Orchestra, Tuscany’s Scarlatti Orchestra and Naples’ Orchestra Filarmonica Campana and Avellino’s Zenith 2000 Ensemble. In July 2014, Maestro Nuzzo led a celebrated performance of the Mahler Fourth Symphony with the Kunstler Ensemble in Vienna, on the anniversary of Mahler’s birth. Philip Nuzzo lead four concerts of the 2019-20 Season with his BCO, its 17th, which celebrates the Beethoven Anniversary. Upcoming international engagements include a return to Venice and concerts in Portofino, Italy. In March 2020 Maestro Nuzzo will return to Vienna with performances of the music of Schoenberg and Mahler in the Musikverein then to Budapest with the Orchestra of the Danube for the Saint Saens Symphony No. 3 and to Abruzzi, Italy for the Beethoven 7th Symphony.
