Qirong Liang begins her 2025–2026 season performing the Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte at the Shepherd School of Music. She recently appeared as Susanna in The Ghosts of Versailles and as Snake/Sheep in The Big Swim, a co-production between Houston Grand Opera and Asia Society Texas.
In summer 2025, she was a fellow at the Music Academy of the West, where she studied with John Churchwell and worked with renowned artists including Sasha Cooke, Howard Watkins, and Bill Schuman.
Her previous credits include Public Opinion in Orphée aux enfers and Charlotte in Werther at the University of Michigan, as well as Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus and the Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte at the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music.
In 2024, Ms. Liang was named a national semifinalist in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition after winning both the Upper Midwest Region and the Iowa District. She is also a first prize winner of the Korea-China International Vocal Competition and the National Student Auditions (Michigan Chapter), and received the Best Mezzo-Soprano Award at the Paolo Coni International Vocal Competition.
Her recent performances include the 2024 Chinese Young Artists Showcase at Carnegie Hall and a solo recital at the Musée Guimet in Paris, celebrating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France. She has also participated in summer programs at the Aspen Music Festival and the iSING International Festival.
A native of China, Ms. Liang holds a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music from the University of Michigan. She is currently pursuing graduate studies at Rice University under the mentorship of Robin Rice. Her coaches and collaborators include Martin Katz, Nino Sanikidze, Lydia Qiu, Joshua Winograde, Bethany Self, and Freda Herseth.
