A native of North Carolina, Rebecca Chadwick began playing oboe during her first year of high school. She started her undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina School of the Art (UNCSA) in Winston-Salem, NC, where she studied under Jaren Atherholt. She performed with the UNCSA Symphony Orchestra, Ballet Pit Orchestra, Opera Orchestra, various chamber groups with esteemed artists, and as principal of the Chamber Orchestra. Becca has performed under the batons of Maestro Larry Rachleff, Joseph Young, Mark Gibson, Christopher Lees, and many more as an orchestral player. She served as the English hornist of UNCSA’s production of the Nutcracker in 2018, 2019, and 2020. In Spring 2021 she was Principal Oboe in the UNCSA Opera Orchestra for Mozart’s La Clemenza Di Tito. Later that year she had the honor of serving as Principal Oboist of the local Chamber Orchestra featuring Violin soloist Lady Jess. She performed as Guest Principal Oboe with the University of North Carolina Wilmington Chamber Orchestra for a performance of Mozart’s “Credo” Mass, K. 257. Now she serves as the English hornist of the USM Symphony.
She has performed in masterclasses for esteemed oboists, Robert Atherholt, Elaine Douvas, John Ferrillo, Reid Messich, and Alex Klein. In 2018 she attended the John Mack Oboe Camp. Summer of 2019 she was a camp counselor at the summer arts institute Interlochen and had her own studio of beginner oboists while there. She and some other counselors started a wind quintet there and performed. An active chamber musician, Becca is a founding member of the Solstice Reed Quintet. Recent accolades include winning first place in the MMTA 2023 Chamber music competition with Solstice Reed Quintet, holding a recital at the North American Saxophone Alliance, as well as being chosen to play a recital at the Music For Women Festival with her Oboe/English horn duo, Magnolia Melodies. As a Baroque enthusiast Becca has performed several of Bach’s Cantatas, Ich habe genug BWV 82, Ich Bin Vergnügt mit meinem Glücke BWV 84, and Principal Oboe d’amore of Bach’s Nun mögt ihr stolzen Feinde schrecken with tenor Glen Siebert and organist Dr. Timothy Olsen. She performed as guest Principal Oboe with the JC Chamber Orchestra for Vivaldi’s Gloria, and their performance of Handel’s Messiah. Her 2023-2024 season includes playing at the Ad Astra Music Festival, HubCity Players, and performing with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. She enjoys spending time outside with her dog Nova, doing embroidery, and making reeds for her reed business in her spare time.
