Biography

Sam Taskinen

Sam Taskinen is a Finnish bass-baritone, praised for her "sonorous and emotionally captivating voice" (SRF). Sam is on her second season at Staatstheater Kassel before embarking on a freelance career. This season Sam can be seen on stage as Wotan (Ring in Concert), Fasolt (Das Rheingold), Kaspar (Der Freischütz), Papageno (Magic Flute), Fra Melitone (La Forza del Destino), Crespel (Tales of Hoffmann) and Surin (Pique Dame). Her roles there have also included Angelotti (Tosca) and Kuno (Freischütz) among others. Sam was a studio member with Komische Oper Berlin (performing roles such as Masetto and Colline). She has performed oratorios with Händelfestspielorchester Halle and in Hamburg, as well as having performed opera roles at Lincoln Center and Edinburgh Festival before joining the ensemble of Theater St Gallen for the seasons 2019-2021, where she got to sing several roles such as Achilla in Händel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto and Capitàn in Daniel Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas.
