Sarah Bowen is a violin performer and teacher in Raleigh, NC. She holds a Bachelor's of Music in Violin Performance and Creative Writing from the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University.
As an orchestra musician, Sarah trained with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. She was the concertmaster for the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony, Indianapolis Ballet Orchestra, Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Aspen Festival Orchestra, Tar River Orchestra, Carolina Philharmonic, Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra, and Northbrook Symphony Orchestra.
Sarah has six years of teaching experience, including with the Raleigh School of Music, Joyful Sounds Academy of Music (Fuquay-Varina, NC), Northwestern University Music Academy for pre-college students, and as a non-profit P.A.L.S instructor at Aspen Music Festival and School. She teaches students of all ages and abilities in her private studio.
As a solo performer, Sarah performed the Haydn Double Concerto for Violin and Harpsichord with the Northwestern Baroque Music Ensemble. She gives recitals, plays for church services, and works with clients to customize private events such as parties, weddings and funerals.
Sarah grew up in a music-filled home in Seattle, WA. She first learned to read music from her Casio Mini 44-key talking piano and since then has furthered her musical training at Aspen Musical Festival and School, Bowdoin International Music Festival, and Meadowmount School of Music, studying with Blair Milton, Gerardo Ribeiro, Cornelia Heard, Ani Schnarch, and Emma McGrath, among others.
When she's not performing, Sarah enjoys writing short stories, rock climbing, hiking, and spending time with dogs.
