Biography

Seth Tack

Dr. Seth Tack, baritone, has just finished his third semester as a Teaching Artist of Voice at Drake University. This past April, Tack presented a lecture recital performing Robert Schumann’s Dichterliebe, Op. 48, along with Drake University Professor of Piano Dr. Nicholas Roth. In December of last year, Tack made his first venture into solo concert repertoire, performing as the Bass soloist in Händel’s Messiah with the Des Moines Community Orchestra under the baton of Dr. James Thompson. In the summer of 2025, Tack played the role of Le Baron de Pictordu in Pauline Viardot’s Cendrillon and covered the role of Belcore in L’elisir d’amore (Donizetti) with the Janiec Opera Company of the Brevard Music Center. In the Spring of 2025, Tack received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Colorado Boulder under the tutelage of Andrew Garland.  While pursuing his doctoral studies at the University of Colorado, Tack performed several principal opera and musical theater roles with CU’s Eklund Opera, including as First Officer Murdoch in the musical Titanic with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston, as Pierre Lafitte the Pirate in Amy Beach’s undiscovered chamber masterpiece Cabildo, as Pandolfe in Massenet’s Cendrillon, and as Alcindoro in Puccini’s La bohème. Equally passionate about art song, Tack presented three full-length recitals during his time at CU, performing works ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st century in the French, German and Italian languages, as well as both British and American repertoire. Tack received his Master of Music degree in voice from Michigan State University in 2022, where he performed Sid in Albert Herring (Britten) and David in A Hand of Bridge (Barber). In the summer of 2019, Tack performed the role of Il Conte Almaviva in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro with Chicago Summer Opera. Tack also received his Bachelor of Music degree right here at Drake University in 2020 (summa cum laude), where he performed the roles of Guglielmo (Così fan tutte, Mozart), Pistola (Falstaff, Verdi), and Papageno (Die Zauberflöte, Mozart).
