Biography

Tracy Cox

A Dallas native, Tracy Cox has been hailed by the Washington Post as an “impressive” soprano, LA Weekly called her a “force of nature”, and Arts in LA described her voice as, “opulent, dramatic, and expressive, with a golden sheen that is nothing short of breathtaking”. An alumna of Los Angeles Opera’s Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program, she made her professional debut with the company in the role of Marcellina LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, under the baton of Plácido Domingo. While in residence she also sang the roles of Female Chorus THE RAPE OF LUCRETIA, Pisana I DUE FOSCARI, and Second Lady in Krenek’s DAS GEHEIME KÖNIGREICH. She was seen in solo recital in Arlington, Virginia with Kim Witman, as part of the Ravinia-Steans Institute in Chicago, and as a featured performer at the Barachois Music Festival in New Brunswick, Canada. Recent concert appearances include her International concert debut at the Vishnevskaya Opera Center in Moscow, concerts with with both the Philharmonic Orchestra of Györ as well as Budapest’s famed MÁV Symphony Orchestra, debuts with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Pasadena Symphony as the soprano soloist in Beethoven 9th Symphony, and the Cincinnati Symphony as the Soprano II soloist in Mahler 8th “Symphony of A Thousand”, and the title role in Debussy’s LA DAMOISELLE ÉLUE. Operatic engagements include the title role of ARIADNE AUF NAXOS  with Pacific Opera Project, Alice Ford FALSTAFF and “Sa Femme” in Milhaud’s LE PAUVRE MATELOT with Wolf Trap Opera, the title role AIDA with Opera San Louis Obispo and Foreign Princess (cover) RUSALKA , Marianne Letzmarin (cover) DER ROSENKAVALIER and Meni (cover) THE EXTERMINATING ANGEL with the Metropolitan Opera.  Upcoming engagements include Aufseherin (cover) ELEKTRA for the Metropolitan Opera and the role of Helen in the world premiere of Matt Boehler and Miriam Gordon-Stewart’s FAT PIG for Victory Hall Opera. Tracy has been an honored recipient of a number of the most prestigious National and International prizes, including a Sullivan Grant in November 2015, the George London-Kirsten Flagstad Prize in February 2014, and the Birgit Nilsson Prize at the 2013 Operalia Competition in Verona. She was an International Finalist in the first inaugural Elizabeth Connell Prize for Dramatic Sopranos held in Sydney, Australia, placed 2nd in Fort Worth Opera’s 2014 McCammon Competition, and was a Grand National Finalist in the 2013 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Ms. Cox was named a 2013 recipient of the prestigious Sara Tucker Study Grant from the Richard Tucker Foundation, and received an Emerging Artist Award from the 2013 Opera Index Competition. Ms. Cox won the 2012 Marilyn Horne Song Competition, and was presented in recital by the Broad Stage in Santa Monica, California, and the National Opera Center in New York City. Tracy Cox received her master’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
