Vincent Jurado is a Filipino-American musician from the San Francisco Bay Area residing in Los Angeles. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from San José State University where he had the opportunity to be mentored by Dr. Kathryn Aducci, Alex Rosenfeld, Caitlyn Smith Franklin, and Dr. David Vickerman. As a newly minted graduate of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, he studied under the tutelage of Amy Sanchez for his Master's degree. He enjoys expanding his musical scope and the various performing opportunities inside and outside of school. Vincent is a member of the UCLA Horn Quartet and is part of the Gluck Fellows Program. In addition to performing for the community on behalf of the Gluck Foundation, the UCLA Horn Quartet has performed at the Southwest Horn Workshop and at UCLA’s graduate composition showcase where they premiered a commission of Robby Good’s Reckoning/Beckoning. Vincent has performed with groups such as American Youth Symphony, San José Youth Symphony, and South Bay Wind Ensemble. He has performed with artists such as Pasquale Esposito, Sheléa, and Jay Jennings of Snarky Puppy.
Vincent has had the opportunity to perform in large works such as Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem, Felix Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Leonard Bernstein’s MASS, Igor Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring and The Rake’s Progress, and Richard Strauss’s Ein Heldenleben. He has participated in masterclasses held by Anthony Plog, Robert Ward, Dr. Kenneth Thompkins, and Quadre. As one of the founders of ExNihilo Brass, a brass collective established in 2018, he had the pleasure of performing for a variety of occasions such as guest artists for school recruitment events, university commencements, and featured artists for recitals. Chase by Sean Thomas Martin was a piece that was commissioned for ExNihilo Brass and was premiered to showcase the students of the composition department at San José State University.
Music Education is a big part of his philosophy and ambitions as a musician. Vincent has been a guest clinician, music coach, and brass technician for schools around the San Francisco Bay Area and enjoys sharing his musical expertise with students and peers. He became drum major for the San José State University Spartan Marching Band where he learned and established a deeper sense of leadership. Upon graduating from San José State University, Vincent was awarded the Above and Beyond Award for “making a difference in the community of the music program”. At UCLA, he continues to hone his skills as a music educator as he proudly serves as one of the teaching assistants for the UCLA Bruin Marching Band primarily working with the best section in the band, the Mellophones. He also serves as a brass coach for Malibu High School and Malibu Middle School.
Vincent has recently been accepted into the Doctorate of Musical Arts program at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music and will be starting this fall where he will continue to use music as a medium for societal change. He was selected by the Music Department and the Division of Graduate Education at UCLA to receive the Eugene V. Cota-Robles Fellowship for his doctoral studies. He plans to use the knowledge and pedigree from a DMA degree to carve a career path into college and university education. While he is not working on his craft as a musician, Vincent can be found indulging in the many great food places in the greater Los Angeles area. In a similar vein, he is a connoisseur of skateboarding, beer, and football. Vincent is a huge San Francisco 49ers fan and consequently does not like the Dallas Cowboys.
