Hailing from Los Angeles, California, Fengyang (William) Ju is an accomplished young oboist based in New York City. He is currently pursuing his undergraduate degree at The Juilliard School, studying with Professor Elaine Douvas. Prior to this, he studied with renowned oboists Eugene Izotov and Mingjia Liu at The Colburn Music Academy.
William currently serves as Principal Oboe of the New York Youth Symphony. During his tenure, the orchestra won a Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance, making it the first time a youth orchestra has won in this category. He also held the principal position in the Colburn Youth Orchestra for the 2018-2020 concert seasons.
Throughout his career, William has won numerous competitions, including the Grand Prize in the Spotlight Classical Instrumental Competition, California Junior Bach Competition, and the Colburn Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition. He was also a finalist in the 2021 Youngarts National Arts Competition. His talent has also landed him interviews and performances on the renowned radio show, From the Top.
Despite his young age, William is already making a name for himself in the music industry. He was one of the youngest participants in the Aspen Music Festival in 2022, and is returning to the Festival again this summer. On top of his accomplishments as an oboist, William is also a pop songwriter and producer. He has released several of his original songs on music streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music, showcasing his diverse musical talent.
William has also studied with notable oboists such as Nathan Hughes, Alex Klein, Liam Boisset, Melissa Hooper, Titus Underwood, and Katherine Needleman.
