Biography

Yangxin Song

Violinist Yangxin Song is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree at The Juilliard School in New York, where she studies with Daniel Phillips and Stella Chen. She performs on a 17th-century Andrea Guarneri violin generously loaned from Juilliard’s instrument collection.

A native of Wuhan, China, Yangxin began to know the violin from her father at the age of three and later studied under Mingjian Liu in Wuhan. At only nine years old, she made her solo debut performing Brahms Violin Concerto in D Major with the Wuhan Chamber Orchestra. By the age of fourteen, she had already mastered and performed ten standard concertos and all 24 Paganini Caprices, establishing herself as one of the most promising young prodigies of her generation.

Song graduated from Bard College and the Bard Conservatory of Music with double degrees in Violin Performance and Psychology, both under full scholarship, and was named to the Dean’s List. Her principal mentors at Bard included members of the Shanghai Quartet, Gil Shaham, and Melissa Reardon.

As concertmaster, she has collaborated with leading conductors such as Tan Dun, Leon Botstein, James Bagwell, and Thomas Wilkins, performing across major venues in the United States and China. As a soloist, she has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center’s Merkin Hall, Symphony Space, and the Fisher Center in New York, as well as Wuhan Qintai Concert Hall, Shenzhen Concert Hall, and Poly Theatres throughout China.

Yangxin has been recognized in numerous national and international competitions, including outstanding participation in the Dubai Classical Violin International Competition in 2024, top prizes in the China Youth Music Competition and the Vienna International Chamber Music Competition, and the Bard Conservatory Concerto Competition. In 2022, she was also nominated for the Harvard Musical Association’s Arthur Foote Award, one of the oldest and most distinguished recognitions for young classical musicians in the United States.

She has been invited with full scholarships to several major international music festivals, including the Heifetz International Music Institute, Vivace Music Festival, New York String Orchestra, and Kaufman Summerfest.

A thoughtful and versatile artist, Song combines technical brilliance with emotional depth and intellectual curiosity. Her artistry reflects a lyrical sensibility, expressive honesty, and a deep commitment to exploring the psychological and human dimensions of music —qualities that continue to define her emerging career on the international stage.
