Zap Rath was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He grew up however, in Montgomery, AL. In Montgomery he won numerous awards and set school music records everywhere he went, including becoming memorialized in the halls of his jr. high school as a guitar legend. After completing the 3 year guitar course in an unprecedented 2 years, Zap held a concert for the entire school and signed autographs afterwards. A commemorative plaque still hangs in the school today. Zap also learned to play nearly a dozen instruments before finishing high school. He then achieved another unprecedented feat by winning on 4 different instruments in a single competition.
After high school, Zap moved to Los Angeles and travelled the country, performing over 100 shows a year in middle schools, high schools, colleges, clubs, churches, festivals, stadiums and more. Highlights during this period include performing at the NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA, performing with the Los Angeles Laker Band, and sharing the stage with the Harlem Gospel Choir, Linda Hopkins, Shirley Caesar, Deuce Lubin, Debra Laws, Johnny Britt, Curtis Young, Soulja Boy, Raz B, and more.
Zap was a winner on the national reality series America's Hot Musician as an instrumentalist. In his final performance, he played his keyboard upside down and backwards. The video has over 25,000 views on Youtube and continues to grow in popularity. He also has been a nominee for two awards from the American Black Music Association: Best New Artist and Best Hip Hop Performer. Additionally, he can be seen in the music videos of Doja Cat, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Camila Cabello, Action Bronson, Chance The Rapper, Aloe Blacc, and Laura Izibor.
In 2020, Zap formed Banded Future along with his longtime friend and production partner Jericho Law. The duo has grown significantly with a rising social media following, a busy tour schedule, and another set of awards, including a Silver Telly Award, a John Lennon Songwriting Contest Grand Prize, a Lennon Award, and a California Music Video Award.
