Position Details

The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s One Year Second Trumpet/Trumpet as Needed position begins on September 18th, 2023, and last day of the season, and employment, is June 30, 2024.

The minimum orchestra weekly scale is $2,019.60 for at least thirty-six (36) weeks: thirty-five (35) of which are playing weeks and one (1) of which is a paid Collective Vacation week. Dates for playing and vacation weeks will be specified in the offer made after the audition. Long-term Replacement Musicians have the option to participate in the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s Community Partnerships(CP) program and in return receive one (1) additional week of paid vacation, scheduled by mutual agreement with the Director of Orchestra Personnel. Electronic media activities will be paid in accordance with the appropriate local or national American Federation of Musicians agreement. These activities include, but not limited to: live recordings, recording sessions, and radio broadcasts. In addition, the SLSO contributes a percentage of scale wages to the AFM Pension Fund, which will be 5.995% for the2023-24 season, as well as provides additional taxable compensation of 4.0% of total non-media wages, which is in lieu of Defined Contribution Pension Plan contributions that are made for Members of the Orchestra, and is included in the weekly scale above. Long-term Replacement Musicians will receive a monthly health insurance stipend of $375.00 for individual coverage during the period of employment. Any partial month of coverage will be reimbursed on a pro-rata basis. Gaps in employment of one week or less will be treated as continuous employment (i.e. unpaid vacation weeks, or other weeks during the season). Long-Term Replacement Musicians will be excused with pay for up to eight (8) services for their own illness or injury. The SLSO will be able to offer some reimbursement for relocation expenses. Anyone accepting this long-term replacement position will need to re-audition for tenure-track employment, and it is understood they will follow the regular St. Louis Symphony Orchestra audition procedures. If offered employment, the winning candidate must be prepared to show eligibility to work in the United States on the first day of employment. The SLSO does not assist with obtaining the necessary visa, authorization, or the cost of doing so. Furthermore, the winning candidate must become a member in good standing of the St. Louis Musician Association(AFM Local 2-197) within 31 days of beginning employment.
