Description
Created in 1926, the Léopold Bellan Competition was initially called the "Music and Declamation Competition." It was then one of the only competitions in existence and practically the only way to mark the careers of young musicians. The prizes were awarded at the Sorbonne by the President of the Republic or an important Minister, with sometimes more than 5,000 candidates per year! Its successive directors were Charles RENE, Noël GALLON, and then, from 1966 to 2012, Christian MANEN, Premier Grand Prix de Rome.
In 2013, the Bellan Foundation entrusted the Competition to a team composed of Hélène Berger, Federico Fait, Rémi Guillard and Françoise Perenchio . International artists, teachers and organizers, they generated its rebirth with explosive energy, without departing from the primary values of the founder of the Competition: social openness, no age restrictions, diversity of styles. They brought together a prestigious honorary committee and a renowned international jury.
The Léopold Bellan International Music and Drama Competition is the oldest and largest French competition still in operation, both in terms of its seniority and the number of its candidates.
