About
The Loren L. Zachary Society was founded to assist young opera singers in establishing a career. An Annual Competition has been held each year since 1973 to meet this goal.
Originally one of the competitors in the Grand Finals Competition was awarded a flight to Europe to audition. This was very successful and many of the Finalists have established major careers. If you visit the Finalists page you will see many singers that you recognize.
In recent years there have been many more opportunities for singers in the United States and most of the Finalists already have engagements in this country. As a result the flight to Europe has been dropped and replaced by an encouragement award.
Each year in October the Zachary Society holds its Viennese Luncheon to help in raising funds. For the last few years the luncheon has been held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. An excellent lunch is enjoyed by the attendees and Viennese Entertainment is provided with excerpts from Operetta sung by former competitiors.
