Emma Koi maintains an eclectic career as an orchestral, chamber and collaborative flutist. She is Principal Flute of Festival City Symphony and Acting Principal flute of the Wisconsin Philharmonic Orchestra and is a substitute musician with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, Brevard Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra. She previously served as Third Flute/Piccolo of the Florida Grand Opera. She is an alum of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago where she had the privilege of working closely with Judd and Joyce Green Creative Consultant Yo-Yo Ma, and former Chicago Symphony Orchestra Composer-in-Residence Anna Clyne on various community engagement projects throughout Chicago. While living in Milwaukee for over a decade, Emma Koi worked as a multi-arts collaborator with many of Milwaukee’s dance and theatre companies. She is a co-founder of Cadance Collective, an ensemble of musicians and dancers treating choreography and composition as equal tools in creating new work for the stage. She has worked as a movement and music artist with Milwaukee Opera Theatre, Present Music, Danceworks Performance Company and Wild Space Dance Company. As a chamber musician, Ms. Koi has performed locally with Milwaukee Musaik, Frankly Music, Access Contemporary Music for Doors Open Milwaukee, and on many recital projects with Milwaukee and Chicago area musicians. As an educator, Emma Koi has served on the faculty at Carroll University and Mount Mary University, and maintains a private studio of flutists of all ages and levels. Her students have won top awards in competitions for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Wisconsin Flute Festival, Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra and Civic Music Association competitions. Ms. Koi received a Master of Music from Carnegie Mellon University and Bachelors degrees in music and dance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her teachers include Alberto Almarza, Jeanne Baxtresser and Caen Thomason-Redus. Emma Koi lives in Lake Mary, Florida with her husband and two young children. She is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) and is the founder of Mother Maker, a podcast and online magazine featuring interviews with artists who are mothers.
