Bringing joy to her audiences, Jae Hyun Moon is a Korean American flutist who actively performs to give back to her community. Debuting with the Long Island Symphony at the age of 14, Merkin Hall in New York City, she has been performing as a soloist, chamber musician, and ensemble musician ever since. Recognized for her expressive and expansive color palette, she recently won First prize at the New York Flute Club Young Artist Competition. Her other competition achievements include second place in the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Society of Arts and Letters (NSAL) Woodwind competition and alternate for the Quarter Finals for the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition. Jae Hyun will be attending Brevard Summer Music Institute on a generous full Teaching-Assistantship scholarship, and she is excited to return to Brevard after being a high school camper there in 2015.
Jae Hyun has performed as Principal Flute at the 2019 Prague Summer Night’s Festival touring in The Czech Republic, and her chamber group was featured in Suk Hall of the Rudolfinum. In the States, she regularly performs with the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra and the Sinfonia da Camera at the University of Illinois. She is currently studying at University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, for her doctorate degree with Dr. Jonathan Keeble, where she also received her Masters degree. She received her BFA from Carnegie Mellon University, studying under the tutelage of Alberto Almarza. Her other influential teachers include Bart Feller, Soo Kyung Park, Jeanne Baxtresser, Marianne Gedigian and Jung Soo Nam.
