Caleb Durant is a Los Angeles-based hornist and recording engineer focused in the fields of experimental and contemporary classical music. He believes in the enriching power of music, and always seeks to provoke thought through his musical ventures. An advocate for new music, Caleb has worked extensively with composers and new music groups, such as Thornton EDGE, Black House New Music, and HOCKET. He is fascinated with musical innovation and experimentation, and he strives to share that same sense of wonder and amazement with all.
Drawing musical inspiration from across the artistic spectrum, from peruvian cumbia to old school hip hop to electro-acoustic soundscapes, he brings new perspectives to the traditional musical contexts in which he performs. He is passionate about social advocacy, and cares deeply about serving and giving respect to artists from traditionally underrepresented communities.
Caleb has worked extensively as a sound engineer in the classical and instrumental recording world. He frequently records and mixes live concerts and recitals, and has experience working in live audio and broadcast for organizations including The Colburn School, Angel City Chorale, Jacaranda Music, and the Ojai Music Festival.
Caleb believes that creativity isn’t limited to just one discipline. He specializes in music, but seeks to immerse himself as much as possible in the culinary world, the worlds of design, fine art, and architecture.
Originally from Fresno California, Caleb now operates out of Los Angeles. He is a third year undergraduate student at the USC Thornton School of Music, and has studied Horn under the tutelage of Kristy Morell and Steve Becknell.
