Biography

Jeannette Marie Lewis

Dr. Jeannette Marie Lewis is a spirited, adventurous musician based in Arlington, VA. Committed to reaching diverse audiences through creative programming, her proficiency in classical and popular styles of flute playing have taken her to venues including Strathmore, the Kennedy Center, and NYC’s Gotham Hall.


An adept orchestral flutist, Jeannette is the Principal Flutist with the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra (PA). In addition, she is a substitute member of the New World Symphony, Cayuga Chamber, Richmond Symphony, Alexandria Symphony, Catskill Symphony, and York Symphony orchestras. Jeannette has been a prizewinner, finalist, or presenter in competitions held by The American Prize, National Flute Association, U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own," New Jersey Flute Society, Flute Society of Washington, and Ithaca Flute Day.


​With over a decade of teaching experience, Jeannette is currently a Teaching Artist with the DC Youth Orchestra Program while maintaining a private flute studio. She has held flute and chamber music faculty positions at Ithaca College and the University of Maryland, College Park. Jeannette recently completed a year-long residency at the Collington Residential Community where she curated, taught, and performed over 60 musical events for a community of 500 older adults. She has given flute performance and woodwind chamber music masterclasses in elementary, middle, and high schools across the East Coast.


Passionate about arts administration, Jeannette is the Associate Director of Sound Mind, a nonprofit dedicated to cultivating a culture of mental wellness in the classical music world. In addition, she serves as Artistic Administrator at The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland, College Park.


​Jeannette completed her DMA at the University of Maryland, College Park, and her MM in Flute Performance and BM in Music Education at Ithaca College. Her primary teachers include Sarah Frisof, Wendy Mehne, Rebecca Gilbert, and Joyce Catalfano.
