Caitlin Berger
(She/Her) I’m Caitlin, a Montreal-based classical flutist who prioritizes empathy and joy in everything I do. I love performing, whether it’s with small ensembles or the new MTL Orchestra as second flute. I love teaching, both private lessons and high school sectionals. It's my mission to turn curious students into big flute nerds like me! I’m also on the board of the West Island Youth Symphony Orchestra to give back to the community that nurtured my love of music in my teens.

Biography

Caitlin Berger

Caitlin Berger is a classical flutist based in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal. She enjoys working on solo and chamber performance projects and teaching aspiring flutists. Exploring how music connects the personal to the universal and sharing those discoveries with audiences and students alike is her passion.

Caitlin recently joined the newly founded MTL Symphony Orchestra as second flute, led by conductor Evgenii Sakmarov. She also adores playing in a variety of small ensembles with her close friends. She regularly performs with the West Island Wind Quintet through volunteer recitals for the NOVA Seniors Centre in Beaconsfield, and her flute-clarinet-piano trio, the Wildflowers Trio, gave their debut recital for friends and family on November 21st, 2025. Caitlin continues to work on projects with clarinetist Erin Smith (Silverwood Duo), recently publishing two professionally recorded movements of Eugène Bozza’s Trois mouvements on her YouTube channel.

Teaching has always been of interest to Caitlin, due to her background in tutoring while in music school and the excitement she consistently feels when talking about the flute. She’s had the honour of teaching at the Fortissimo Academy of Music and Arts, the Just and Accessible Music School (of which she was a co-founder), and the Vanier Community Music School. She currently offers flute lessons exclusively through her private studio in NDG, which she created in 2016. As her current student Mary puts it, “Caitlin’s focus is your growth, but never at the cost of the joy of playing.” Caitlin also loves teaching flute sectionals and regularly works with wonderful students at high schools around Montreal.

Caitlin graduated from McGill University and the University of Montreal under the tutelage of Denis Bluteau, after studying with Heather Howes at Vanier College. She was a member of the UofM Orchestra, McGill’s Contemporary Music Ensemble and Wind Orchestra, and the Montreal Youth Symphony Orchestra. She attended the Orford Music Academy three summers in a row, studying with renowned flutists Julien Beaudiment and Alexa Still. She is now a member of the board of directors of the West Island Youth Symphony Orchestra (WIYSO), the very first ensemble she ever played in.

Some of Caitlin’s solo performance highlights include reaching the semi-finals of the first ever Concours de flûte de Paris in 2019; performing the Chaminade Concertino with WIYSO in 2013; and creating a monthly livestream series entitled Caitlin’s Cozy Concerts during the 2020-2021 lockdowns. She went on to publish her first professional recording of Debussy’s Syrinx on streaming platforms in 2022. Caitlin plays on a silver Powell Conservatory flute, which she has happily owned since 2017.

Apart from teaching and performing, Caitlin thoroughly enjoys watching film and television. So much so, in fact, that she co-created a podcast called Watched It with one of her best friends, Jacqueline Noel, who she met at McGill. The art of storytelling, no matter the format, is a driving force in Caitlin’s life. She remains committed to the field of arts and culture forever.
