Lauren Jewell is a compassionate educator, vocalist, and conductor who strives to show others the joy of music. Lauren currently works as the chorus director and musical theater teacher at Freedom Middle School, where she exposes students in grades 6 through 8 to new ideas, cultures, and disciplines of music. In 2020, Lauren worked as an assistant director for the IU Children’s Choir, synthesizing multiple styles to create a unique choral experience. In addition to operating a private studio, Lauren has been employed by multiple churches as a choral scholar and wedding singer. Comfortable with varied styles and genres, Lauren performed a solo work on the soundtrack for the video game The Shadows that Linger, produced by Red Ink Games.
In addition to being an active educator and performer, Lauren is an avid conductor. She conducted at the Cornish American Song Institute in the summer of 2019, working with professors at Oxford to study the British choral tradition. Through her own initiative, Lauren organized and conducted a choral recital in 2020 highlighting the works of contemporary female composers. Additionally, she served as Vice President of the IU chapter of the American Choral Director’s Association. In 2021, Lauren received her Bachelor of Music Education from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Lauren hopes to use her unique combination of interests to expose others to new and varied styles of music throughout her career, particularly the music of contemporary female composers.
