Nikkei-Canadian artist, Luka Kawabata 川端ルカ has quickly established himself within Canadian opera. As a baritone and producer, he strives to push the boundaries of representation in opera through the creation of new works. Luka was recently selected as part of the BMP: Producer Academy for 2023. His ongoing series The HAFU Project explores the history of Japanese immigration and internment through an intersectional lens of identity, culture and memory. The project is set for its first live presentation in Spring 2024.
