Olivia Martinez is a freelance horn player in Philadelphia, PA. She has performed across the world, including China, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Estates Theater in Prague, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and more. Recently, she performed at the International Women’s Brass Conference with the Chromatic Brass Collective, which seeks to increase the visibility of underrepresented people. There, she won the Marie Speziale Orchestra Mock Audition and a new Conn-Selmer horn. Olivia is Principal Horn of the Bay Atlantic Symphony.
Olivia wears many hats- playing jazz, natural horn, and new music. She competed with Elm Street Brass in the Fischoff Chamber Competition, becoming Semifinalists and winning the American Brass Quintet Prize. Her current quintet Amo Brass is currently planning their California Tour, where they will perform and teach masterclasses to local high schools. Music also brought Olivia to Disneyland when she auditioned into All-American College Band in 2018 and spent the summer performing there. Olivia is passionate about teaching and loves helping students think critically and enjoy learning.
Olivia is pursuing a Doctorate in Musical Arts at Temple University. She earned her Master's in Music at Yale University and Bachelor's in Music at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Her current and former teachers are Randy Gardner, William Purvis, Richard Seraphinoff, Dale Clevenger, Jeff Nelsen, Wolfgang Vladar, William Browne, and Jim Deal.
A Hoosier born-and-raised, Olivia hails from a small town called Lowell, Indiana. She often inhales both books and good food. An avid runner, she recently ran her first marathon in Pittsburgh. On any given day, you might find her fawning over dogs, exploring Philadelphia, or enjoying nature.
