Robert Feifan Hurley is a Taiwanese-American cellist pursuing an MM at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he studies cello with Eric Kim and chamber music with the Pacifica Quartet. Robert is a graduate of UC Berkeley, where he studied with and served as teaching assistant to Jonathan Koh. He served as principal cellist of the UC Berkeley Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, and led Celli@Berkeley, the campus-wide all-cello ensemble. Robert has been awarded the Garth Newel Emerging Artist Fellowship and attended such summer festivals as Orford Music Academy and Festival and the Meadowmount School of Music. Robert has appeared in masterclasses for members of the Kronos, Danish, Shanghai, Alexander, Baumer, and Telegraph String Quartets as well as the Delphi Trio. A passionate advocate for contemporary music, he has appeared in workshops with composers Meredith Monk, Natalie Joachim, and Kamala Sankaram, as well as eighth blackbird members Nick Photinos and Matt Albert. Robert attends the Jacobs School with the generous support of the Alfred Hertz Memorial Traveling Scholarship.
