Dylan Kinneavy is currently an undergraduate student in cello performance at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where he studies with Eric Kim. At age four he began studying Suzuki cello with Adrianna O'Brien, and at age eleven, he began lessons with Peter Howard. He has performed as a soloist with Minnesota Youth Symphonies and the Minnesota Sinfonia and in masterclasses with Nicholas Tzavaras, Peter Wiley, Alban Gerhardt, Brinton Smith, Timothy Eddy, Blaise Dejardin, Johannes Moser and Robert DeMaine. In his first year at Jacobs, Dylan earned the associate principal cello position for the Chamber Orchestra and principal cello for the University Orchestra. Prior orchestra experiences have included performing as principal cellist with the Minnesota Youth Symphonies, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Institute at Whistler, and the Minnesota All-State Orchestra. An avid chamber musician, Dylan has participated in ensembles coached by Tom Rosenberg, Philip Ying, Kurt Muroki, and Mark Holloway and played in summer programs such as the Bowdoin International Music Festival, the Saint Paul Chamber Music Institute, and the Northern Lights Chamber Music Institute. In high school he competed with prize-winning string quartets at the Fischoff Competition, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra Youth Chamber Music Competition, the Midwest Young Artists "Discover" Competition, and the Saint Paul String Quartet Competition. His quartets were featured as Showcase Artists in Minnesota Public Radio's Minnesota Varsity competition, and have played for masterclasses and coachings with Rebecca Fischer, Ariana Kim, Richard Belcher, composer Caroline Shaw, the Parker Quartet, and the Jasper String Quartet. Dylan also enjoys playing both classical and jazz piano. His other hobbies include filmmaking, photography, cooking, and ultimate Frisbee.
