Biography

Sarah Hayashi

Franco-Japanese-American soprano Sarah Hayashi made her German debut in 2021 at Theater Erfurt where she has performed Susanna and Barbarina Le nozze di FigaroFindus in Ramdohr’s opera Petersson und FindusTante Edla/Jiri in Leipold’s Mio Mein Mio, Adele Die Rache der Fledermaus and this season Aufseherin Elektra. She sang Le Feu L’Enfant et les Sortilèges with London Philharmonic and Vopera, Despina Così fan tutte with Seastar Opera, Zerlina Don Giovanni for Bare Opera, Blondchen Die Entführung aus dem Serail with Bronx Opera, Belinda Dido and Aeneas for Little Patuxent Opera, Olympia Les Contes d’Hoffmann at the Arbor Opera Theater and as a cover for English Touring Opera, Eurydice Orphée aux Enfers for both Opera at Bearwood and Bel Cantanti Festival. In student productions she performed Königin der Nacht and Erste Knabe Die ZauberflöteSusanna Le Nozze di Figaro, Adina L’Elisir d’AmoreMiss Ellen LakméEmmie Albert HerringFeu/Princesse/Rossignol L'Enfant et les Sortilèges as well as Miranda in Douglas Buchanan’s Ariel’s Tempest.

Her concert repertoire includes Händel’s Messiah and Laudate Pueri Dominum, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Schubert’s Mass in E-flat, Haydn’s Missa Brevis in G, Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate, Kodàly’s Missa Brevis and Respighi’s Lauda per la nativita del Signore. With soprano Lisa Kiriaty, cellist Angela Lobato and harpsichordist Marie Otaka she created the Chaconne Ensemble. They won the Royal College of Music Early Music Competition and have performed in the UK as well as at the Utrecht Early Music Fringe Festival.

Sarah Hayashi obtained her Master of Music from the Peabody Conservatory and in 2016 a Master of Performance from the Royal College of Music in London and continued her training at the Wales International Academy of Voice in Cardiff. She won the Royal College of Music’s Concerto Competition, reached the finals at the London Händel Festival’s Singing Competition, received the Selma D. and Leon Fishbach Prize, was a semi-finalist in the International Cesti Competition 2016 and in the Concours Corneille – International Baroque Singing Competition 2021. In 2018, she won 2nd Prize in the Händel Aria Competition in Madison, Wisconsin.
