Helaine Liebman is a soprano originally from Highland Park, IL and is now based in Chicago. Most recently, she covered the role of Donna Elvira in a production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the Aspen Music Festival and School’s 2022 season. She also recently graduated with a Master of Music at Northwestern University under the instruction of Pamela Hinchman and Alan Darling and was supported by a Joyce Reed Cope Scholarship and an Eckstein Scholarship. Helaine was a first place winner in the Advanced College Classical Treble section of the 2021 NATS National Student auditions and the winner of the Lynne Harvey Foundation Award in honor of Virginia Cooper Maier from the Musicians Club of Women in 2021. Additionally, Helaine was a 2020 Wisconsin District winner of The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and received an honorable mention in the Southern Illinois Young Artist Organization 2021 Vocal Competition. She also won first place in the Advanced College Classical Treble division of the Central Region NATS Student Online Auditions 2020 and first place in the 2020 IAET Joseph P. Glimco Jr. Competition. In the 2021-2022 season, Helaine made her debut of Exsultate, jubilate by Mozart, Violetta in La Traviata, Mimi in La bohème, and covered Diana in If I Were You by Heggie. Her past engagements include Suor Angelica at Carnegie Hall (New York Lyric Opera Theatre), Nella in Gianni Schicchi (City Lyric Opera), Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi (Westminster Opera), Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus and Micaela in Carmen (Amore Opera). Helaine’s recital work includes a recital in the Norfolk Room Music Room Series at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, a recital of new works entitled The Avian Eye at the National Gallery in London, and a recital in Mumbai, India. Additionally, she graduated with distinction from the Royal College of Music in London studying with Janis Kelly and Simon Lepper.
