While at Lawrence University, where Seth earned their B.M. in Piano Performance with a Jazz Emphasis (2015), their freelancing career in the musical theater and opera world (and beyond) truly began. In addition to their accompanist scholarship assignment to a vocal studio as freshman and sophomore, and as both musical theater and opera rehearsal pianist junior and senior years, Seth found themselves taking on more gigs as an accompanist across the music school. The experiences with nearly all the music staff at Lawrence propelled them in the direction to pursue freelancing out of undergraduate. After graduation, Seth would represent Lawrence University for the first time at The Gilmore Piano Festival, playing in master classes for Till Fellner and Imogen Cooper.
Seth's first freelancing stint out of Lawrence was serving on the music staff as a pianist for College Light Opera Company's 2016 season, learning and performing 9 musical theater and light opera shows in one Summer. After CLOC, Seth worked as a visiting studio accompanist and bandleader in Little Shop of Horrors at University of Memphis. At the time, they were based in Ann Arbor where they freelanced with an extensive range of musical theater and opera companies, churches, private vocal and instrumental studios, and from all types of schools from kindergarten to students attending the University of Michigan. While primarily working as a pianist in both vocal and chamber realms, Seth also worked as a musical director with the Young People's Theater on their productions of Crazy For You, and Legally Blonde.
Moving to Chicago in mid-2017, Seth continued freelancing as a collaborative pianist and musical director in the same capacity, and served as the staff accompanist at St. Xavier University from 2018-2019. In 2019, Seth toured with Virginia Opera for their Herndon Foundation Emerging Artist's production of The Roland Hayes Story.
After returning to Chicago from Virginia, Seth began taking on more freelance music copying, arranging, and music production commissions, in addition to continued freelance collaborative work. Their current and near-future projects include co-creating a new artist collective, and releasing a collection original music. They strive to foster a forward-thinking approach to musical collaboration, drawing on experiences in multiple genres to re-inform the old and the new.
Thank you for your time – hope you have a good day!
