Tyler Barton is a tenor and private music instructor in piano and voice in the Oklahoma City metro area. He regularly performs as a soloist and within church choirs, chamber vocal ensembles, and concert choirs in Edmond and Oklahoma City. His students from across the United States perform at local, state, and regional levels and consistently excel in vocal competitions in solo, ensemble, and jazz singing. Tyler studied music at the University of Central Oklahoma.

Biography

Tyler Barton

Tyler Barton is a seasoned performer who began his singing career as an ensemble member and featured supporting actor in several musical theatre productions. He has performed as a member of choral ensembles ranging from large ensembles to chamber ensembles on advanced and specialist repertoire as well as choral masterworks. He was the tenor section leader and tenor soloist for St. Mary's Episcopal Church's Chancel Choir (2016-2018) and for New Hope United Methodist Church (2022). While at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Mr. Barton represented UCO in honor choirs with the Oklahoma Choral Director's Association, the Southwest American Choral Director's Association, in a performance tour of Italian cities, and at the University of Northern Colorado's Greeley Jazz Festival in Greeley, Colorado. Additionally, Mr. Barton has performed as a featured soloist with the University of Central Oklahoma's Concert Chorale and the UCO Chamber Swingers vocal jazz ensemble. He studied voice with Dr. Molly Johnson, vocal pedagogy with Dr. Barbara DeMaio, conducting with Dr. Karl Nelson, and vocal music education methods with Dr. Darla Eshelman. He has served as an intern conductor for the Central Oklahoma Symphonic Youth Choir and the Edmond Youth Chorus.

I sing for annual holiday services during the times of Advent and Holy Week performing liturgical hymns, service music, anthems, and masterwork selections.

2015 - Present
Using sound principles of pedagogy, I teach students ages 7 to adult of all skill levels piano and voice. While I teach a variety of styles and techniques, I specialize in classical, musical theatre, and jazz singing and classical and jazz piano. My students regularly perform and compete at the local and regional levels in the United States.

Tenor Soloist and Section Leader

2022 - 2022
I was hired to temporarily fill the tenor section with limited preparation time to give a concert performance of a Eliingboe's Requiem for Holy Week services. My contract was extended through the remainder of the choir's performances of the spring semester into June for performances at the Oklahoma United Methodist Annual Convention, Sunday morning services, and Wednesday rehearsals. I sang liturgical hymns, service music, anthems, and masterworks during this time.

Tenor Soloist and Section Leader

2016 - 2018
I performed liturgical vocal music consisting of hymns, service music, and anthems during Sunday morning services. In addition to singing solos, it was my responsibility as section leader to ensure that the tenor section of the choir performed the each week's music accurately and artistically. In the absence of the music director on occasion, I also led choral rehearsals on Wednesday evenings whenever the need arose.

Scene Shop Coordinator

2009 - 2011
My responsibilities centered around coordinating volunteers, keeping inventory of tools and materials within the shop, and coordinating with creative teams in constructing sets and props for theatrical productions in the Poteet Theatre and Poteet Theatre Arts Education performance seasons. Working as part of a small administrative team, I also regularly operated sound and lighting desks for rehearsals and performance runs of staged productions and assisted with administrative tasks involving fundraising and music preparation for musicals.
