Description

Powerstories Theatre is proud to present the third annual Voices of Women Theatre Festival, showcasing six local and national playwrights to a global audience. The festival is a combination of full-length and shorter plays. The festival runs from Monday, July 17 through Sunday, July 23, 2023. Bomba Body Dance Drum Co. is an integral part of "Searching for Abuelo" by Gretchen - Suarez-Pena, providing Bomba music in live performance.

Synopsis: My maternal grandfather died before my mother even graduated from High School. I know very little about him except that he was a bartender, an aspiring actor, and writer in New York City, and wanted to own a Mercedes Benz. In this one-act solo show, framed in the traditional Puerto Rican musical style of Bomba, I (Gretchen) put myself through the journey of figuring out who he was, who I am, and what to do about it.
