Bryson Rule is an American tenor based in Kansas City, Missouri, where he is pursuing his DMA in Vocal Performance under the tutelage of Dr. Raymond Feener.
Bryson’s original plan consisted of obtaining a degree in Vocal Performance, but getting alternatively certified to teach so that he can become a choral director. After all, he always participated in choir and eventually being the first in years to make the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State Choir twice in high school. Life, however, had other plans. Bryson fell in love with art song during his freshman year of his undergraduate studies, and later, with opera after having seen his school’s production of The Marriage of Figaro.
Trained classically and in the Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) styles, Bryson is a very versatile tenor. He has been seen as Barigoules in Cendrillon, Gherardo in Gianni Schicchi, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, The Watched in Watchless, Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Damon in Acis and Galatea, Jack in Into the Woods, Captain Albert Lennox in The Secret Garden, Kaspar in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Camille de Rosillon in The Merry Widow, John Brooke in Little Women (musical), and in the choruses of Acis and Galatea, The Secret Garden, Amahl and the Night Visitors, The Merry Widow, Shrek the Musical, and The Wedding Singer.
Bryson gains praise for the natural beauty in his voice as well as the emotional potency of his performances and his attention to text and phrasing. Though he has a particular affinity for French mélodie, he hopes to always use his gifts to serve the music to his utmost ability, whether he sings art song, aria, or musical theatre.
He is fortunate enough to have been guided and directed by Linda Brand, Dale Morehouse, Gregory Buchalter, Dr. Raymond Feener, Mo Zhou, Dr. Christopher Hollingsworth, and Dr. Melody Rich. He is also privileged to be a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Alpha Psi Omega, and Pi Kappa Lambda.
In his free time, Bryson enjoys photography, composition, reading books, and spending time with his beautiful wife. Currently, Bryson holds a position as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at UMKC, a singer with the Grammy award winning KC Chorale, and is a Section Leader at Atonement Lutheran Church.
