Caroline LeGrand, soprano, is a professional choral singer, church musician, and Communications Specialist living in Atlanta, Georgia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Furman University and a Master of Divinity from Mercer University. She is passionate about the intersection of music and liturgy. During her graduate degree, she completed a Master’s thesis in which she researched and discussed the interaction of music and the Eucharist and their ability to create egalitarian community together. The thesis is titled “How Can Music Assist in the Subversive Intent of the Eucharist?” In Atlanta, she serves as a Missions Communications Specialist at the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. She is also a staff singer at All Saints Episcopal Church and Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, as well as a contemporary worship leader at the First Baptist Church of Decatur.
Caroline’s musical journey includes significant contributions to the renowned Duke Chapel in Durham, NC. In 2021, she had the honor of serving as a soloist and soprano for the Duke Chapel Bach Cantata Series in their performance of BWV 117 and BWV 192.
Caroline’s involvement with Duke Chapel extended beyond the Bach Cantata Series. She also showcased her talent as a soprano with the Duke Chapel Chorworks in 2019 and 2022, participating in performances that included Monteverdi's madrigals and selections from Selva morale e spirituale, Charpentier's Le reniement de Saint Pierre, Charpentier's Motet pour les trépassés, DeLalande's Quemadmodum desiderat cervus, and works by Brumel, De la Rue, DuMont, L'Heritier, Mouton, and more.
In addition to her work at Duke Chapel, Caroline has made significant contributions to other professional ensembles. She has been a member of Servire Chorus since its inception in 2019, performing benefit concerts around the east coast and being featured multiple times as a soloist. With Servire she has had the privilege of performing a wide repertoire, including works by Purcell, Stanford, Takach, Taylor Scott Davis, and more during her residency at East Carolina University. Caroline was also showcased at the NCACDA Conference in 2022, where she performed works by Hazzard, Shaw, Weelkes, Poulenc, and Barnum.
Passionate about using her musical gifts for a greater cause, Caroline has been actively involved in benefit concerts and community outreach projects. This past May, she participated in Servire Chorus’ Benefit Concert for Sleep in Heavenly Peace, where she contributed her soprano expertise in a 6-voice SATB setting to pieces by Byrd, Tschesnokoff, Chilcott, and more. Additionally, Caroline dedicated her talents to a Recording Project & Live Masterclass in 2021 at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Savannah, GA, featuring works by Poulenc, Weelkes, Shaw, and Barnum.
Caroline versatility extends beyond her ensemble work. She has served as a soprano Staff Singer at All Saints Episcopal Church in Atlanta, GA since the fall of 2019, lending her voice to enrich sacred music services. She has been featured often as a soloist at All Saints, most notably in their performance of Bach Cantata BWV 61, where she performed “Öffne dich, mein ganzes Herze.” Additionally, Caroline joined Chicora Voices in Greenville, SC in November 2022 for their inaugural performance, featuring works by Distler and Schütz, showcasing her ability to adapt to different musical styles and genres.
Caroline was selected as a VOCES8 US Scholar for the 2022-2023 season, an honor that allowed her to collaborate with renowned composers such as Vivanco, Esmail, Barnaby Smith, Paul Smith, Rajasekar, and Taylor Scott Davis. Through this she was honored to perform in the world premiere of Christopher Tin’s The Lost Birds with the VOCES8 ensemble this past February. This exciting opportunity further affirms Caroline's dedication to artistic growth and innovation.
