Darren Liou is an LA based musician who recently received his master’s degree in clarinet performance at the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to this, he received a BM in clarinet performance and a BA in music education at UCLA.
Darren has studied with several world-renowned clarinetists, including the late Gary Gray, Steve Barta, Boris Allakhverdyan, and Josh Ranz. During his time at school, Darren has had the opportunity to perform with the UCLA symphony, wind ensemble, and philharmonia, and has debuted several compositions for solo clarinet and chamber ensembles.
As both a performer and an educator, Darren continues to perform in ensembles such as the Fivemind Reed Quintet and the California Young Artists Symphony, and he teaches at West Coast Music Academy and Hayfield Music Academy. He also teaches private lessons and hopes to inspire young musicians all over the world.
When he is not practicing or teaching, Darren enjoys spending his time making YouTube videos and improving his archery skills.
