Biography

Elijah McCormack

Elijah McCormack, male soprano, performs both concert and opera all over the United States, garnering praise for his “radiant soprano” and “expressive sophistication” (Dallas Morning News). He has performed several times as a soloist and ensemble member with the Washington Bach Consort and Dallas Bach Society, singing major works such as Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, St. John Passion, and St. Matthew Passion. He has also performed with the American Bach Soloists in their Theile St. Matthew Passion, and with Ensemble Altera in various programs. On the opera stage, he originated the role of Bell* Cohen in the world premiere of NIGHTTOWN with Lowell House Opera, and also appeared as Miles in The Turn of the Screw with IlluminArts Miami. The current season sees his return to the Washington Bach Consort and Ensemble Altera, as well as his debut with Haymarket Opera Company, singing Valletto and Amore in their L’incoronazione di Poppea; and his debuts with The Crossing, Seraphic Fire, and Ars Lyrica Houston. He was named a finalist in the Grand Rapids Symphony’s Keller Distinguished Bach Musician Award, and a semifinalist in the Poeme Harmonique Corneille Baroque competition. He has twice received encouragement awards in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. He has appeared as a young artist at the Boston Early Music Festival and the American Bach Soloists Academy. He received his Master's degree in Historical Performance at Indiana University, where he studied with Steven Rickards and sang the roles of Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare and the Dewman in Hansel and Gretel. He received his Bachelor’s degree in studio art at Skidmore College.
