(They/Them) Heralded by Opera News for her “lush” voice, Melina Jaharis is a Greek-American with a “rich, dark, resonant” mezzo soprano.

In the fall of 2023, Melina will cover Santuzza and Lucia with MidAtlantic Opera Company and La Gran Vestale with Teatro Grattacielo. Future seasons include Carmen, Kate Mayo, and the Verdi Requiem with the Oxford Philharmonic (UK).

Highlights of 2022-2023 included covering Madre in Madama Butterfly and scenes as Eboli and Ulrica with Sarasota Opera. The summer included covering Amneris, Ortrud and Mrs. Soames with Utah Festival Opera.

Melina Jaharis

Heralded by Opera News for her “lush” voice, Melina Jaharis is a Greek-American with a “rich, dark, resonant” mezzo soprano.

Future seasons include Carmen and Kate Mayo. Melina will join the Oxford Philharmonic (UK) to sing the Verdi Requiem in 2025. 

In the fall of 2023, Melina will cover Santuzza and Lucia with MidAtlantic Opera Company and La Gran Vestale (La Vestale) with Teatro Grattacielo..

Highlights of her 2022-2023 include joining Sarasota Opera’s Young Artist Program where she will cover Madre in Madama Butterfly and sing scenes as Eboli and Ulrica. The summer includes covering Amneris, Ortrud and Mrs. Soames with Utah Festival Opera. She will also be performing Mrs. Gibbs (Our Town) with the Boston Opera Institute.

Her 2021-2022 season included singing the title of Carmen with MIOpera. the world premiere as the title role of Charley in Good Country with LOLA Austin, Isabella in Zandonai's Giulietta e Romeo with Teatro Grattacielo as well as covering Bellx and Calypso in Nighttown with Lowell House Opera.

In 2018, Melina trained as a Studio Artist at the Wolf Trap Opera Company where she performed the role of the Contessa di Ceprano (Rigoletto) and covered Maddalena. Other role studies and performances include Hannah After (USA and Portugal), Leonore cover (Oxford Philharmonic), Gertrude, Mimì and Contessa Almaviva, Anna Maurrant and Fiordiligi (Martina Arroyo Role Prep Class). Equally comfortable speaking German and English, she studied in Vienna, Austria at the Konservatorium Prayner in the year before her graduate studies.
