Emily Gilbertson is a pianist, singer, and teacher. Most recently she spent her summer teaching group keyboard skills class at the world renowned Interlochen Center for the Arts. She completed her master’s degree in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy at the University of Oklahoma with Dr. Jeongwon Ham. She received her Bachelor’s degree from St. Olaf College in Piano Performance with a Collaborative Emphasis with Dr. Kent McWilliams. She performed in several states across the United States on the 2018 St. Olaf Piano Tour. In addition to her piano studies Emily was involved in choir and opera at St. Olaf College. She was Marcellina in St. Olaf's Scenes from the Marriage of Figaro in 2016 and an ensemble member of St. Olaf's production of Die Fledermaus in 2016 and Ruddigore in 2017. Emily has experience accompanying vocalists, instrumentalists, and choirs in recitals, lessons, studio class, and juries. She also has experience as a church pianist accompanying services and performing with choirs. Emily is a dedicated pedagogue and researcher. Her work has been accepted to national conferences. Her 2021 poster presentation called “Let’s Hear New Sounds: Women Composers and Their 20th & 21st Century Techniques for Developing Pianists” is about diversifying piano repertoire in applied studies. Currently she teaches online and in person piano lessons for students of all levels and ages. She also teaches elementary age choir. She has been accepted to perform piano at the Classical Music Festival in the summer of 2024. In the future she hopes to become a university piano professor.
