My name is Jennifer Ries, and I am a violist and violin and viola teacher in the DC area. I play regularly at the Kennedy Center, Strathmore, and varios local theaters like Arena Stage and Round House Theater. I graduated from Oberlin Conservatory in 1987 and the San Francisco Conservatory's Chamber Music Center in 1990. I was principal viola and concerto competion winner in the New Wold Symphony in Miami Bach in 1992-1993, then won a position in the Kansas City Symphony from 1995-2004. While in Kansas City, I received a one year position teaching viola at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, and also play as a sub with the Minnesota Orchetra in 1998-1999.
I moved back to the DC area in 2004, and play in several groups. I have subbed with the National Symphony and Baltimore Symphony. I teach privately at my studio in Chevy Chase, and am on the faculty of the Holton Arms School's Arts Adjunct Program. I played in the Beau Soir Ensemble, trio for viola, flute and Harp for five years, and have started my own group, The Inner Loop Chamber Players with pianist and music director of the Washington Ballet Glenn Sales.
