Kárenly Michelle
(She/Her) Hi, I'm Kárenly. You can always find me singing, eating, or coordinating events and performances around New York City and Puerto Rico. I'm a Berklee College of Music alumna and one of the lead singers of Los Pleneros de la 21. I have been working with Congahead Studios, Guitambu Music Productions, and Melissa Ocasio among other incredible creatives for a few years now, where I do my best to make their careers a bit easier to manage.

Biography

Kárenly Michelle

Kárenly Michelle is a Puerto Rican singer-songwriter, actress, music management consultant, and model based in NYC.  She has been involved in the arts from age 4, starting out in theatre, children's choirs, and voice acting. She was part of many Christian worship groups and prestigious island choirs, including the University of Puerto Rico’s Corium Canticus, which granted her a full college scholarship in 2011. In 2012, she decided to further her musical career in the US after obtaining a scholarship from Berklee College of Music. There, she earned her Music Business Management/Marketing bachelor’s degree in 2016.

Kárenly has performed with legends like Larry Watson, Peter Eldridge, Arturo Ortiz, Jeremy Bosch, Isaac Delgado Jr., David Liebman, and Victoria Sanabria, among others. She moved to New York in 2016 and quickly became involved with Congahead, a live music studio run by Latin Percussion’s founder Martin Cohen, and even translated his autobiography into Spanish.  Some of her work has taken her as far as Kenya & Uganda to mentor, teach and volunteer. She became the muse of Gyovanni’s “Je Ne Veux Que Toi” music video and had her own artist feature in WIPR’s last season of ‘En La Punta de la Lengua’.  Currently, she is one of the lead singers for Los Pleneros de la 21 and is in the process of recording her first album.

LP21 was founded in 1983 by Juan J. ‘Juango’ Gutiérrez (National Endowment for the Arts’ Heritage Fellow, 1996) and the legendary Master Plenero, Marcial Reyes Arvelo. The ensemble has pioneered the road for bomba and plena performance around NYC, and continues to spread it globally for nearly 40 years. I toured with the Grammy-nominated ensemble for over 3 years, after recording lead vocals in their latest album, Los Pleneros de la 21 Live at Pregones: 35 years of Bomba & Plena (Truth Revolution Records, Nov 2018), which is an ode to the group’s long arduous, yet satisfying journey.
