Biography

Lauryn Nelson

Young Mezzo-Soprano Lauryn Nelson is rapidly garnering attention for a voice with a uniquely rich, alto tone. Lauryn is completing the 2nd year of her Master of Music degree in vocal performance at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music. She has performed in venues worldwide, including Illinois, Houston, California, Rome, Fermignano, and more. Lauryn is the 2023 National Opera Association's Legacy Award winner for her work in their Carolyn Bailey Argento Vocal Competition. Ms. Nelson recently made her premiere performance on The Ravinia Festival stage alongside The Chicago Symphony orchestra conducted by Marin Alsop. Upcoming performances for Ms. Nelson include her role debuts as Bradamante in Handel's Alcina with the Northwestern Opera Theatre and Grimgerde in Wagner's Die Walküre with Wagner in Vermont this season. Lauryn is excited to present her master's recital featuring works by Black composers, including new compositions by Chicago composer Adrian Dunn.
