Biography

Wendy Silvester

British mezzo-soprano, Wendy Silvester, changed career paths in 2012, to pursue her developing voice, and her love of classical singing and being on stage. Wendy trained privately for several years, taking short courses at various institutions, and sought out every opportunity to gain stage experience. This led to achieving a place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2016, where she completed the Master of Arts in Opera Performance, graduating in 2018.

From there, Wendy’s path has moved in the direction of Wagnerian and Verdian repertoire, as she continued to train, and take on more roles with grassroots companies. In 2019, Wendy was awarded a scholarship to train at the Dramatic Voices Program at Utah Vocal Arts Festival, taking on excerpts from the roles of Amneris (Aida), Laura (La Gioconda), Mother (The Consul), and Ms. Quickly (Falstaff). In Utah, Wendy also sang Dritte Damen in the Principal Artist production of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. This led to another scholarship opportunity with New York Dramatic Voices, and in January 2020, Wendy gained a place as one of their artists. In New York, Wendy performed the role of Rossweisse in Die Walküre, as well as excerpts from the roles of Mistress Quickly (Falstaff), and Ježibaba (Rusalka). Other notable institutions that Wendy has trained with include Dramatic Voices Programs Berlin, and the Boston Wagner Institute.

In 2019, Wendy made her Wagnerian debut, with the role of Erda in Das Rheingold for Tarnhelm Opera. Since then, she has gone on to collect performing credits for a number of other roles in the Ring Cycle, and has made her first steps into other Wagner roles. In 2022, Wendy was a finalist at the Mastersingers UK Wagner Vocal Competition.
