Noted for her “sensitively sung” (Classical Voice North America) performances, Cuban-American mezzo-soprano Madelin Morales believes opera and song to be the most powerful storytelling tools.
This summer, Madelin returned to Central City Opera as an Apprentice Artist, where she sang Emily/Friend 3 in The Ballad of Baby Doe, and was a soloist in “CCO in Concert”. This fall, Madelin joins Shreveport Opera as their 2026/2027 Resident Artist Mezzo, where she will sing Hansel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Mrs. McClean in Floyd’s Susannah, and Pepito/Primo Musico in Donizetti’s Viva La Mamma! Past notable roles include: Paula (Florencia en el Amazonas), Mercédès (Carmen), Oberto
(Alcina), and Taller Daughter (Proving Up).
An award-winning singer, Madelin was a 2026 semifinalist in the international Lotte Lenya competition. Other accolades include: First Place at the 2025 Carolyn Bailey Argento Competition, Encouragement Award at the 2024 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition (Connecticut District), Winner of the 2023 Schmidt Undergraduate Vocal Competition, and a 2019 U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts.
An alumna of Carnegie Hall’s SongStudio (2026), Central City Opera (2026, 2025), Tanglewood Music Festival (2024), and Music Academy of the West (2023), Madelin holds a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music, and graduated with her Master of Music from Bard Graduate Vocal Arts Program this past May.
