Cosas magazine praises Maia Aramburú as Peru’s young promise of lyrical singing and she’s considered as one of the seven new Peruvian voices of the new generation of artists. Born in 2000 in her beloved Lima, Peru, Mariajose was surrounded by music and art from a very young age. The soprano is quickly getting recognition on the operatic and concert stage. Ms. Aramburu has given sold-out concerts in Peru for two consecutive years while also being invited to sing for the President on Independence Day for two years. In her 2021-2022 season Maia made her debut as Susanna with the Vienna Summer Music Festival in their production of Le Nozze di Figaro and will be performing the role of Minskwoman in the USC Opera Theatre production of Flight by Jonathan Dove as well as performing Atto III of La Bohème as Mimì. The soprano has also made her debut with the University of Michigan Opera Theatre as Mrs. Hayes in Carlisle Floyd's Susannah, as Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, and as Countess Eleanor Craven in Jake Runestad’s Daughters of the Bloody Duke. Maia debuted as Dorothée in Massenet’s Cendrillon with the Miami Classical Music Festival at the Faena Forum in Miami Beach and as Novice in Puccini’s Suor Angelica with the Berlin Opera Academy in Kandersteg, Switzerland, while also covering Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi.
The soprano has also participated in many competitions winning Third Place in the 2022 George Shirley Competition in the USA, Semi-finalist in the Concurso Latinoamericao de Canto lírico, First Prize in the Medici International Music Competition, Second Prize in the MAP International Competition, and semi-finalist in the 2021 George Shirley Competition. Maia is also part of EXIGENCE, the Sphinx Organization’s Vocal Ensemble, which in 2023 will be performing at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in D.C., Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and University of Notre Dame Residency.
In the arts administration world, Maia is the CEO of her production company Aramburu Productions in Lima, Peru as well as her brand new non-profit organization ALMA TAKI, an organization that encourages and promotes Latinos, education, and their music around the world.
The Peruvian soprano graduated with a Bachelor of Music (BM) in Vocal Performance with a minor in Performing Arts Management & Entrepreneurship (PAME) from The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, & Dance under the tutelage of emeritus tenor George I. Shirley. Currently, she is pursuing her Master's in Vocal Arts & Opera at the USC Thornton School of Music studying under soprano Elizabeth Hynes.
