Natalie Van Slyke is on a mission to increase classical music's accessibility through spirituality and in celebration of her own untraditional path. She is exploring what it means to enjoy performing, preparing for orchestral auditions, and finding her place as a musicpreneur. It is important to note, that Nature has never been separate from her accolades and institutions, and always remains her primary teacher.
In 2018, Natalie received her Bachelors in Music from Boston University and studied abroad at the Royal College of Music in London during her junior year. Last summer, she was the flute fellow for the inaugural season of Mozart in the Knobs and performed in two World Premieres of pieces for flute sextet by composer Deena T. Grossman. In previous summers, she has attended the Atlantic Music Festival, Boston University Tanglewood Institute Flute Workshop, and ARIA International Summer Academy.
Since moving to Portland, Oregon she has performed second flute and piccolo with Orchestra NEXT (Eugene Ballet Company) for their 2021-2022 season and can be heard in their recordings of The Nutcracker released in 2022. She has also been called to substitute for the Eugene Symphony.
She is very grateful to have studied with so many influential teachers including Heidi Kay Begay, Diana Morgan, Jeffrey Barker, Alberto Almarza, Amal Gochenour, Leone Buyse, Jacqueline Cordova, Martha Long, Renee Krimsier, Susan Milan, Geralyn Coticone, Linda Toote, Patricia Spencer, and Norman Thibodeau.
Natalie offers energy readings and prayers in the form of musical improvisation through her instagram @fluteconscious. Through this project, she promises all content is 100% raw emotion and energy, completely improvised.
