Biography

Olivia Dorer

Olivia is currently in her third year of her flute performance degree, studying with Professor Kathryn Lukas. At age 11, Olivia started learning the flute in her elementary band program and began lessons with Second Flutist of the Dayton Philharmonic, Jennifer Northcut. In high school she discovered her passion for music while participating in the marching band, pit orchestra, and wind symphony, going on to win her high school’s concerto competition and perform alongside the wind symphony her senior year. In addition to the ensembles at school, she also participated in honors ensembles such as OMEA District XIII Honor Band, Bowling Green State University Honor Band, Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble, and Cincinnati Symphony’s Youth Orchestra. Summer programs Olivia has attended in the past include Interlochen Arts Camp, Aria International Summer Academy, and Eastern Music Festival. While at IU, Olivia has performed in IU's Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and Conductor’s Orchestra. Chamber music she has experienced throughout her education includes various flute quartets and mixed string/flute ensembles. Additionally, throughout her training Olivia has had the privilege to perform in masterclasses and study with many renowned flutists such as Jake Fridkis, Ann Choomack, Bonita Boyd, Alexa Still, Molly Barth, Judith Mendenhall, Donna Shin, Linda Toote, and Christina Jennings among others.
