Born and raised in Miami, Florida. Gaby started Viola at 12 years old and is currently attending Florida International University under the tutelage of Michael Klotz. Gabriella attended the Miami Music Project (2016-2018); since then, she desired to pursue music as a career.

Colombian-American violist, Gabriella Alvarez, 21, lives in Miami, Florida. She currently studies with Michael Klotz at Florida International University.
In 2023, Gaby participated in the Heifetz Institute and studied with Paul Neubauer, Michael Klotz, Mai Motobuchi, Barbra Westphal, Nicholas Cords, and Melissa Reardon. During the fall, Gaby will be a Substitute Viola for the New World Symphony Orchestra. In 2021 and 2022, Gabriella attended the Josef Gingold Chamber Music Festival under the tutelage of Toby Appel, Sarah McElravy, and Michael Klotz. A couple of years prior, Gaby also participated in Interlochen Online in 2020 with Renee Skerik and Daniel Sweaney.
Ever since attending the Miami Music Project (2016 - 2019), an El Sistema-based program in Miami, Gabriella feels that classical music is necessary, but also slowly diminishing, in the 21st century. She has given a TEDx talk on the importance of classical music and how to truly understand and appreciate the genre.
Gaby has won the 2022 Music Club of Hollywood grant and is a recipient of the GS & Cohen Scholarship at The Wertheim School of Music at Florida International University.
Her other interests include kayaking, (very) long walks, Colombian culture, and taking care of her cat, Felice.
