Experience

Rewiring America

2023 - Present

Operations Manager

2023 - Present
I manage all internal operations at the country's leading electrification nonprofit. I oversee contracts, invoicing, hardware, software, and security.

Logistics Engineer / Strategic Process Improvement Analyst

2021 - 2023
I helped solve Biomedical Services’ biggest challenges by leading technological transformations and new strategy development to make the American Red Cross the country’s leading blood producer. For example, I wrote and implemented 300+ auto coding rules for freight auditing program to improve automation to over 90% of shipments processed through Data2Logistics. I also facilitated the successful go-live and adoption of our Transportation Management System and provided operational efficiencies for regions to improve their process for tracking distribution of 15,000+ blood units daily. I co-founded the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee for my department, strategized how to provide more DEI programming, and led virtual team breaks and other events to facilitate engagement.
Indianapolis, IN

Grants Administrator

2020 - 2021
I was responsible for managing the distribution of $10M in federal CARES funding to 479 Indiana arts and culture organizations. In this role, I reviewed all grantee documentation, followed up with individual nonprofit organizations to confirm expense eligibility, and helped design grantee-facing materials including the final report and an informational webinar.
Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel

International Development Intern

2019 - 2019
As a summer intern, I supported the International Development Director and development team developing our fundraising strategies and assisting with daily communications, research, and reports. Researched 50+ prospective donors and foundations and briefed development director in advance of prospect meetings. Designed response card for annual report using Adobe Illustrator and printed 150 cards and envelopes using local Israeli printers. Analyzed 300+ past donors and event attendees in Excel and presented donor trends and giving patterns to development director. Segmented 150 donors by location and giving level using Mailchimp tools and presented segmentation options to development team. Researched ways to continue developing US giving and board through high tech equity giving and adopting a gift acceptance policy.
Bloomington, IN, USA

Ticketing & Sales Analyst / Settlements Manager

2019 - 2020
I worked in the box office to analyze show sales and created several models to better inform our ticketing and season strategy. I created an Excel model to determine average ticket revenue growth over time, compared the model to current sales data, and recommended dynamic ticket pricing adjustments in near real-time. I then forecasted the number of subscription accounts for 2019-2020 season using past season data and an Excel model which facilitated accurate budgeting. I later completed 8 season settlements on-time with 100% accuracy for shows from $25,000 to $850,000 in revenue.

Volunteer Manager

2018 - 2018
I oversaw and managed all volunteers for the 10th anniversary Northside Festival in Brooklyn, NY. My responsibilities included recruiting, training, and managing over 75 volunteers during five festival days. Created a volunteer management system that was flexible to unexpected events such as last-minute cancellations and no-shows. Ensured adequate volunteer coverage to check-in audience members for 75 events and 380 band performances across 4 days. Created a seamless 5-day festival experience for 100,000 creatives and innovators by deploying volunteers to all areas of the festival to help with directions, check-in, badge verification, and production assistance.

Outreach Coordinator

2017 - 2018
I supported the office in its overall outreach efforts and led initiatives to develop partnerships with incarcerated learning spaces and on-campus international organizations. I also assisted with development projects. Cultivated a diverse arts community for over 12,000 patrons at the Lotus World Music & Arts Festival. Managed six volunteers at Arts Village set up for the festival and finished all tasks one hour before the deadline. Created a plan and timeline for potential 2017 Giving Tuesday campaign. Collaborated with 25 partner organizations to plan Lotus Blossoms, a youth arts education program that engages over 1,500 students in Southern Indiana. Designed layout maps using AllSeated.com and event flyers with Adobe Illustrator. Pursued and developed partnerships with juvenile detention centers and prisons to advance the organization’s mission of creating opportunities to explore the diversity of world music and art.

Traveling Exhibitions Associate

2017 - 2018
I helped the Manager of Traveling Exhibitions design, prepare, and ship the "Untold Stories" exhibit to be displayed at WEAM in Miami, Florida. I assisted in nearly all facets of the exhibit preparation in advance of the opening. I also co-developed the Kinsey Institute historical exhibition for WEAM on display beginning December 2018.

Biography

Joshua Gilstein

I have loved music and the performing arts since I started playing piano at the age of nine. I became a musical storyteller in high school when I began writing original music. Songwriting is the way I can express myself most deeply. I have written both instrumental piano music and singer/songwriter pieces, which I sometimes perform in the city.

In 2017, I began my arts administration journey with the Master of Arts in Arts Administration program at Indiana University. I am proud to have worked with a number of different exceptional arts organizations both in Indiana and across the country. I delight in working behind the scenes to bring art to life on the stage.

In 2022, I became a Talent Manager for a talented local performer in San Francisco. I am enjoying this additional dimension to my artistic engagement as I continue to balance my arts administration and musical storytelling pursuits. It is a fun new adventure that is continuing to deepen my connection to the San Francisco Bay Area performing arts space.

I look forward to the next phase of my artistic journey!
