The Harvard Computers worked by daylight at The Harvard Observatory, studying photographic plates of the night sky. These women made groundbreaking discoveries in the field of astronomy that shaped how we understand the universe. During this year-long devised process, their stories were brought to life through movement, music, and text.
An adaptation of Carmen Machado's short story "The Husband Stitch," A Ribbon Play is a toy theatre-based exploration of youth and the body. Step into our slumber party and meet wolf girls, hookmen, poisoned brides, and many more all twisted into the narration of the girl with the green ribbon!
This piece was created as a part of the Theatre Making Masters at the University of Kent. It was also performed at the Gulbenkian Theatre GENFest.
With the goal of challenging the typical creative process, I set out to create five pieces of toy theatre in five weeks. Using a variety of puppetry styles, this performance showcases these small worlds, exploring themes of identity and growing up. In the performance, live feed video is used to give audiences an up-close look at the puppets while watching how the performers bring each piece to life onstage.

I am excited about creating theatre for all ages and expanding accessibility in the arts. After graduating with a BA from Northwestern, I completed a Masters in Theatre Making at the University of Kent in England where I wrote a practical dissertation on developing a body positive approach to physical theatre.

Hello! I'm Ellie Levine. I am a Chicago-based director and movement director with a focus on devised physical theatre and puppetry. I am passionate about working collaboratively with ensembles to create dynamic and impactful visual storytelling. I empower performers to take an active role in creation through processes that center curiosity and joy.
I am excited about creating theatre for all ages and expanding accessibility in the arts. After graduating with a BA from Northwestern University, I completed a Masters in Theatre Making at the University of Kent in England where I wrote a practical dissertation on developing a body positive approach to physical theatre.
