Maya Cohon is an avid chamber and orchestral musician from Seattle, Washington. She has been a member of the San Francisco Opera Orchestra since 2017, and will begin her new position as Associate Concertmaster in the 2023/24 season. She performs regularly with the San Francisco Symphony, the Seattle Symphony, and the San Francisco Ballet, and is a part of the Wave Chamber Collective based in San Francisco.
Maya grew up in a family of musicians, and cultivated her love for chamber music from an early age, playing quartets with her sister, cousins, aunts and uncles. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree from Northwestern University, where she studied with Almita Vamos. During that time she was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and then went on to join the New World Symphony in Miami, under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas.
Maya spends her summers at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music in Santa Cruz, California, and Lakes Area Music Festival in Brainerd, Minnesota. She has spent past summers performing with Pacific Music Festival, Tanglewood Music Center, and Music Academy of the West.
