Career Highlights/Education
The Talos Brass Quintet is composed of trumpeters Sarah Jessen and Bethany Vaughan, hornist Rachel Côté, trombonist Alex Ertl, and tubist Ben Poirot – all graduate students at Northwestern University. TBQ was recently named a finalist in the 2023 MTNA National Chamber Music Competition. As burgeoning professionals, between them they have been named fellows at such institutions as the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Tanglewood Music Center, and Aspen Music Festival and have subbed professionally with the symphony orchestras of Chicago, Cleveland, Philadelphia, and more.

Biography

Talos Brass

Named after the brass bull in Greek mythology that guards the island of Crete, the  Quintet was founded in the fall of 2022. The group is composed of trumpeters Sarah Jessen and Bethany Vaughan, hornist Rachel Côté, trombonist Alex Ertl, and tubist Ben Poirot – all graduate students at the Northwestern University Bienen School of Music. TBQ was recently named a finalist in the 2023 Music Teachers National Association National Chamber Music Competition and will be competing in March as the only invited brass group. As burgeoning professionals, between them they have been named fellows at such institutions as the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Tanglewood Music Center, and the Aspen Music Festival and have subbed professionally with the symphony orchestras of Chicago, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Houston, Montreal, Indianapolis, and more. They are available for hire to play at church services, weddings, corporate events, parties, and more.
